2006 F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Dürnsteiner Kellerberg - Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau (2/12/2015)
Back on release there was some real fear that the rich, ripe 2006 Austrian Grüner Veltliner wines might fall to their alcohol with age. This one certainly has not. It's not shy by any means, but it is balanced, still conveying a great richness on the palate, and creamy fruit and snap pea aromas/flavors. It has not developed much in the way of aged character, except a slight burnished edge on the finish. Overall a quite spectacular bottle, making me sad that I have no more.
