2009 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py Cuvée 3.14 - France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon (2/8/2015)
I read a promising note about this wine the other day, so figured I would try one. Well it's still very tight, so it's tough to really get a handle on it, but it is an interesting cross of elegance and gutsiness with more than enough depth for many more years in the cellar. It's a good wine, but a closed book right now.

Nice. I really liked the regular CdP in 2009 and would love to taste this. I had my first Foillard in a while this weekend, the 2012 CdP. It was tasty, but I think it was the first vintage I tasted since '09 so I had to recalibrate back before that atypical year. (And note that I have nothing against 09 in Beaujolais, it's just interesting to see the wines across such different vintages)

I had one of the '11 special cuvées (Corcelette?), and found it very hard and astringent. Haven't been back to the well since, though I have a good bit of '09, so there is no shortage of Foillard in the house.

So would you give it a rating of 3.1415926?

Let's go with 3.14 with potential for some upside.

I've had two of the 2009 Burgaud Morgon Cote du Puy V.V. and really liked them--the best Beaujolais I had had in a good while. I haven't had any of the Foillard.

Yes, I had the Burgaud in recent months. I'm not sure I've ever had the Foillard.

Should we drink this on March 14th?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows

I've got the '10. If by any chance you also have this vintage, the last bottle I opened, 3-4 months ago, didn't seem ready yet.

The Burgaud '10s are tough beasts. I have a bunch of the special cuvees, and they are rough. Going to need years.

David - I have 1 bottle of the Foillard Corcelette 2011 - astringency is not what I associate with Foillard. In December, I opened a 2011 Cote du Py and found it bright with good fruit, earth, minerals, and hint of animal. I thought the 2009 Corcelette was delicious when I last had it a couple of years ago. I have one more bottle of that, and it might be worth opening before the 2011.

Diane,

I was very surprised at how the Corcelette showed. Very un-Foillard.
