Orion

Found this in my cellar while searching for some thing else. 1988 Orion by Sean Thackery, just opened it up and it is drinking fine and will have it with ribs in a short time. It's Rhonish in flavor, I can't remember the composition. Mr Hill or Mr Edmunds what say you having beem around when they first planted grapes in CA? Just took another sip, it's delicious. :D

I thought Orion turned out to be mostly Petite Sirah.

the '88 was an old planting of Syrah from Arthur Schmidt, right near Mustard's, in Napa Valley, later became part of the Swanson property, if I recollect accurately. Either that or I'm hallucinating

So Sean has dealt with multiple vineyard sources for the Orion then. There's some other winemaker I have heard of who has had a bunch of different sources for his signature wines...name escapes me.

It's Syrah,,, I managed to piece together the label from scraps. No hint of source except Napa.

I almost bought those grapes in '86, but Sean swooped in ahead of me. I'd hesitated because I'd signed up to buy some fruit from this new place called Durell

Nice to see both of you came out well. I remember the Orion after five years after release was as hard as a rock and I put this bottle down and forgot I had it. The color was remarkable looking like it had been released a short time ago.
