Axis Mundi Tasting note

by Tom N. » Thu Jan 22, 2015 8:59 pm

It has been a while since I have posted, but my dinner wine tonight was so nice that I just had to post this note.

Wine 2010 Axis Mundi, 67% Grenache, 33% Syrah from the Windmill Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley
Winemaker:West Hagen of Clos Pepe

Nice clear ruby red color. Nose is has this wonderful earthy black cherry note right up front followed by a hint of cloves. The midpalate on this wine just delights the palate with silky tannins, beautiful mouth watering acidity, and cherry/blackberry fruit. Nice medium long finish of tannic tingles and acidic blue and black fruit. Medium to full bodied wine. Reminiscent of a nice southern Rhone wine. Drinking beautifully at this time and I have another bottle in my cellar! I had this wine two years ago and it just was not ready to drink yet with the fruit being masked by the acidity and tannins, but WOW, what a difference two years makes!

Food match: grilled marinated pork loin. Really good match that delighted my palate with just beautiful melding of flavors.

Life is good!
