WTN: I'm impressed with the Empress

by Jim Grow » Sat Jan 17, 2015 9:25 pm

2006 "The Empress" from Bugay Vineyards in Sonoma Co. Black in color with slight ruby at edges. The nose and palate were most interesting with lots of black fruit, cassis and blackberry but with a strong note of sandalwood ( my wife) and black olive (me). Not completely resolved of its tannins but getting there. This wine should reach maturity in 2-4 years but has the fruit/tannin/acid balance to have a long life at the plateau of maturity. From the Mayacama Mts. and 100% Cabernet sauvignon or at least that is what the label assumes. Lots of grainy sediments and 14.5% abv. Wish I had a couple cases of this wine.

The same Bugay that Arnot-Roberts used for their Sonoma Cabernet?
