Tried this oldRhone over the weekend:
1. Dom.du Chene Anais AC: StJoseph (MeBaD; 12.5%) M&D Rouviere/Chavanay 1988: Med.color w/ considerable bricking; beautiful smokey/espresso/roasted/coffee classic NRhone little Syrah fruit quite complex nose; bit tart/lean very strong roasted/espresso/smokey/bacon fat pungent/classic NRhone flavor w/ light/astringent/drying tannins; very long very strong roasted/espresso/meaty/bacon fat/coffee pungent/smokey/NRhone finish w/ light/astringent tannins; a terrific classic NRhone nose but clearly starting to dry out on the palate and on its last legs; after a few hrs in the decanter the nose was pretty gone and the wine totally shot....so much for the benefits of letting old wines breathe.
