WTN: 2013 Idlewild Wines Barbera

by David M. Bueker » Sat Jan 10, 2015 9:53 pm

2013 Idlewild Barbera Fox Hill Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (1/10/2015)
I have toured through pretty much all of the Idlewild wines, and is is at or near the top of a prestigious pile. There is a lovely mix of red and black fruit, balancing acidity, and a long finish. No obtrusive oak here, so the fruit expression shines through. It's totally competitive on a QPR basis with Italian Barbera in my book, and drinking it supports a really cool winemaker, Sam Bilbro.

Just had this wine last week, David and agree. It's a great wine from a talented winemaker.

I've only tried his Valdigue, which rates up there with Broc Cellars' version, imho. I need to explore more widely!
