Lately I have been spending more time checking out Rheingau`s Joachim Flick, stocking up on some of his wines available downtown. He has a ten year lease on some of Weingut Hupfeld holdings (as discussed before) and with his track record I am expecting some great wines in the future. Stay tuned!
TN: 2012 Joachim Flick Hochheimer Konigin Victoriaberg Riesling Kabinett, Rheingau.
$28 Cdn, SC, 8.5% alc, AP # 42017 011 13. First bottle of 3. There is also a 2013 Trocken available.
Very light lemon in color. Melon, peach on the nose with pineapple, floral blossoms and lime hints.
Initial entry thought is sweet, ripe yellow fruits. Think the sweetness here with some age might recede, revealing the acidity and possible minerality? Very good mid-palate and length.."pear and melon" from across the table. Citrusy finish, "tropical glory" as one UK chap notes! Definitely a wine to watch, wonder how it will develop?
