WTN: 2012 Arnot-Roberts Syrah Griffin's Lair

by David M. Bueker » Mon Jan 05, 2015 9:15 pm

2012 Arnot-Roberts Syrah Griffin's Lair - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (1/5/2015)
Randomly grabbed this from the cellar, as I was in a bit of a hurry. Dark purple color was followed by a dark set of aromatics, focused on blackberries, roasted meat and black olive. On the palate it had vibrant acidity, and the aromas translated well to the palate. Despite the impression from the deep purple color, the wine was not heavy at all. I have several more bottles, and I will be putting them away to let the acids calm down a bit.

Finishing up the bottle tonight. The acidity has mellowed, and the tannins are out in force. Plenty of stuffing to carry this for a good while. Drink later!

You have the Pax Griffin's Lair as well, I'm fairly certain. How would you compare the two? (I own the latter, but have yet to taste one.)

I have two bottles of the Pax Griffin's Lair, but have not yet opened a bottle to taste the wine. All the reports on CT appear to point to a richer, riper version than the A-R.

Thanks, kind of the impression I had, too.
