On New Years day, Bob and I popped our last 1990 Cristal. The last bottle we opened didn't have any oomph in the cork--or the subsequent wine, so we were thinking maybe we shouldn't subject anyone to another potential disaster. But a disaster it wasn't--the cork went POP! in a nice way, and had persistent effervessence throughout though it was clearly an older wine with a deep orangey-gold color and flavors of caramel, apple butter and nutmeg.
Then last night we decided to commemorate the life of Serge Hochar with our last 1995 Musar. What a perfect bottle! Spice, funk, sweet red fruit, and just a bit of leather--everything you hope for from Musar, all there.
