Reviewing Cellartracker, I noticed that I had some incredible wines last month that should be mentioned. On the whole, I drink very good wines, but I've never done an overview, so I thought I would jot some brief comments on what I drank in November.
Early in the month, we went to the NoMad in NYC for a leisurely lunch and ordered the taglierini with white truffles. Wine was a 2005 Bouchard L'Enfant Jesus. Just a beautiful wine. Only needed a few minutes in the glass to open up and show itself. It had balance and interest - there is no rush to drink it, but I will open my 1 remaining bottle at the first opportunity.
2008 Allemand Chaillot[b] Bright and beautiful bouquet with a burst of fruit. The palate is clean with lush fruit, black pepper and bacon. An effortless wine that does not hint at a cool or weak vintage.
2004 Knoll Riesling Smaragd Loibner Loibnerberg - Petrol and peach aromas. Palate is concentrated with an underlying richness and minerality, with good acidity and a long finish. A complete wine.
1994 Philip Togni Cabernet Sauvignon . - Aromas of old Bordeaux with plenty of life. The palate is delicious dark fruit with tobacco, similar to a nicely aged Pauillac. Aged Togni is right in my wheelhouse.
2000 Chave Hermitage - a lovely perfume that wafts from the glass. There is also white pepper and florals. The palate is light - a feminine Chave that gets lost among the more meaty Chaves of other vintages.
2008 Scherrer Syrah Calypso Vineyard - bright cherry fruit along with black pepper and black olive. Good for a California Syrah, but this was 2 nights after a dinner featuring a lineup of Chaves. The Scherrer is well made but hard to properly enjoy it with Chave still on my mind.
2010 Domaine Huet Clos Du Borg Sec - a lovely start to Thanksgiving. This is mostly dry but hinting at sweetness with the taste of apples. I get the Chenin woolliness and it is a very nice wine that went with assorted cheese.
2010 Inman Family Olivet Grange Vinyard Pinot Noir - wine with our Thanksgiving turkey. Inman wines have elegance and finesse - they are not showstoppers, and that is why I like them. This had red fruit and baking spices. Good acidity - well balanced.
2012 Sandler Bien Nacido Vineyard Pinot Noir - a big change from the Inman Pinot. This had big spice and a bigger frame while maintaining a certain elegance. The wine had enough oomph to stand up to filet mignon with a Stilton and onion sauce.
That wraps up a(nother)good month in wine.
