Beware Fedex scam!

by Jenise » Sat Dec 20, 2014 12:55 pm

An email from a friend this morning says:

Wow! You might or might not be familiar with this virus, but you, like I, would be susceptible to it. An official looking FedEx notice arrives via email advising you FedEx was unable to deliver a parcel, and you should print out the attached label and take it to your nearest FedEx office to retrieve your package. Only if you download the label you are toast! I know this because I fought to override my virus protection this morning, anxious to retrieve my wine delivery from California, which I assumed the package was, after all the difficulty in getting it shipped here. Apparently my virus protection software won out over my blundering and my system is hopefully still sound. I know this because I called the local FedEx office, planning to request that I email them the notice and they print it, and they told me about the scam threat.

Interesting. Anytime FedEx has not been able to leave a package for me they have left a note on the door and have never sent me an e-mail requesting that I download something. For me at least, the lack of a note in addition to the e-mail requesting that I download something would have been a huge red flag and I would have deleted the e-mail and not clicked on the download.

Me too, Dave. And probably this friend--he admits he was over-anxious because the vendor of this particular shipment, a well-known wine purveyor to the stars in West L.A. kind of place, had failed and failed and failed to meet promises for sending and he was having to resort to something akin to harassment to get them to put that case of wine on an east-bound truck.

Speaking of banboozlements, I need to write up my recent experience with Big Brown. It will be titled something like "UPS Must Die." :)

I look forward to reading the Big Brown story because I have had my own issues with them regarding wine shipment/delivery.

Most of the Fedex/UPS failed delivery scams I get are poor quality obvious fakes. But I did get one last week that looked pretty real. But when I hovered on link to check obvious wasn't Fedex. Thanks for warning
