Which 1999 Ridge Zin??

by Redwinger » Sat Dec 13, 2014 3:19 pm

I've been tasked with supplying a Zin for a get together this evening.

I've narrowed it down to:
1999 Ridge Lytton Springs
1999 Geyserville

Waddaya think?

I guess I could bring both, but I don't like these folks enough for that.. :P

They are both drinking spectacularly well now. Just grab whichever one you want. It won't matter.

I have had both during the last quarter of this year and would advocate drinking the Geyserville at this time because it seemed from the bottles we recently had that the 1999 LS has a longer aging potential than the 1999 Geyserville.

The Geyserville usually ages better & longer than the LS but there may be exceptions.

Have you had either recently, Lou Kessler? My tasting group and I have had both recently and we thought the 1999 LS has more aging potential but I would like to hear your recent impressions of the two bottles.

My notes (most recently fall 2013) have them both mature and time to consume.

I did not attempt to refute your judgement but just made a general observation on the two wines.
If it's of any worth I've been a principal of a successful wine store in So Ca for over 30 years and have been enjoying wine for over 40.
I'm still working at learning about wine, it's a never ending process. Lighten up and enjoy. :D

Decision was made. I went with the Geezer and everyone, including the person who put ice cubes in it, seemed to enjoy it. The color and aromatics suggested this wine was far from OTH, but I did not sample it.
NJ mentioned that she hoped we had more of this, which usually indicates a relatively high mark in her bizarre rating methodology.
