WTN: 2010 Isole e Olena Cepparello

2010 Isole e Olena Cepparello Toscana IGT - Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT (11/29/2014)
Well this was a bit of overkill for pizza! I wanted to test out a bottle, and figured what the heck. The 2010 Cepparello is very suave and polished for a young Sangiovese. It's full of red fruit and a subtle spice. There's a warm herb element on the finish that keeps the wine balanced and fresh. I really like this, and may plow through a whole lot of bottles in the near term.

I don't know the wine. Was it expensive? Doesn't sound like 'overkill' in the sense of overwhelming flavors or complexity.

It's not cheap. It is very suave, and it has great flavors. It's a wine that develops in the cellar (the 1997 is very fine now), so this was much too early.

Cepparello was one of the first of the "super-Tuscans". Isole e Olena introduced it in the early 1980s, back when the DOCG regulations for Chianti Classico still required blending in white grapes. Cepparello was and still is non-appellation varietal Sangiovese.

I haven't had the 2010 Cepparello, but the 2010 Isole e Olena Chianti Classico is superb.

Cepparello with pizza, that shows a great deal of class. This board should be grateful for your personal sacrifice in regards to our up grading in the world of wine boards. :D
