I'm familiar with 3 of these and my old friend is right on. 5 New York Wines Everyone Needs to Experience
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

I've had the first two.

Not clear about the point of post -- he's not saying these are the best NY wines. and there are no vintages given -- but (some) New York wines are deffo first rate by any standard.

Thanks for posting this Howie! I miss posting in the WLDG - it feels good being here again. When NY won Wine Region of the Year, I was asked to write something about it. Of course without the WLDG I probably would not be in the wine business or at least not writing. What 2 have you not had Howie?

Nice to see you Ed!

Too bad none of those wines make their way to CT or Central MA.

Ed Draves is a "go to" on New York wines. I am sure he can provide more detail. I have had the Ravines Reisling and the Pinot. What vintages were these Ed?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

I may have had the Rieslings from the Finger Lakes, but it has been a while. I frequent Leonard Oakes (had their Steampunk Sparkling Cider with Thanksgiving) and will be opening the Arrowhead Springs 2012 Barrel 12 Pinot Noir tonight (I'm going to dinner at Alan Kerr's). I had the Johnson Estate Seyval about a year and a half ago.

Ed can always be counted on to recommend an interesting wine, but it's an anecdote having little to do with wine that sticks in my mind about him. At one of Howie's NiagaraCools, Ed arrived with his young daughter. His wife would be coming along shortly. My wife commented on the nice dress the little girl was wearing. Ed said yes it was one of his favorites. Ed's wife shows up, takes one look at their daughter and says, "Ed her dress is on backwards!"

Welcome back Ed..Have visited the first 2 wineries, no experience with the other 3..Don't get out to the Buffalo area that much anymore but, back in the day, Premier was a must stop and shop for us, along with a visit to Dr Wine, Mont Stern
