The other night I had a lovely bottle of 2010 Luis Pato Beiras Baga VV. After a modest investigation into the area 6 or 7 years ago, I haven't had many Portuguese wines in recent years. But I was happy to see this on a list at a restaurant where I knew the rest of the crowd would not go for the sour racy wines I might have chosen and I was trying to avoid something Too Big.
Anyway, this was great, dark, ample (for me at least), but fresh and lovely to drink from the beginning. Not sure how it might have developed with air? (We finished it too quickly)
Another standout from the weekend was the Haw River Regent's Rye Tripel. Not sure if that is even relevant for non-NC folks, but I loved the layered texture and flavors.
