A Stags Leap Sunday

Clos Du Val "State Lane"Mostly cabernet saugvignon, with a hefty dollop of cab franc. This was a delicious bordeaux blend with that delightful cherry Stag's Leap/Youtville fruit and characterful Clos Du Val,"funk". Given the nice structure, I can imagine this one being an ager.

Also: 2011 Clos Du Val Petit Verdot. Inky black in color with a minerally high toned blue fruit character. A delicious day in Stags Leap!

We also visited Antinori's Stags Leap Wine Cellars. 8) Their new tasting room is stunning, just stunning, with huge glass windows offering full on views of the palisades! The "new" regime has...changed things quite a bit. No more "snootyness" at all. An expensive place to taste, but a very friendly and professional staff who start bringing out the extras if one shows any interest! For the money, the 2011 Merlot was delicious in its basalt minerality. My frields preferred Fay while I liked the more muscular SLV.

That tasting room alone is just beautiful. Not in a Disneyish way...very modern
