Chalone AVA, Monterey County, CA. 14.3% abv. ph balance 3.77; total acidity 6.1g/l; brix 24.6; residual sugar .03g/l. Aged for 12 months in one-, two-, and three-year barrels. 1600 ft. altitude for hillside vineyard with co-location of granite and limestone soils. Stressed vines and wines of unusual complexity. (from back label)
Viscous with flavor of red currants, slight tartness, and silky tannins. Lengthy finish. Pleasant and somewhat compelling. Showing some secondary nuances as it develops cellar age. I'm still loving this and giving it a solid 90 points.
