Wow, a wine for the seasoned white wine veteran!

Thats me forumites and as the festive season is just around the corner, here is a teaser for you!! Think I am going to have this with shrimp and scallop saute as I watch Wind in the Willows (thats not a clue).

Colour. Very attractive light lemon with a watery pale rim. Minimum viscousity here. 12.5% alc and a nice natural cork btw.

Nose. Spring flowers, ripe pineapple, flinty, herbs, minerally as it airs.

Palate. Wow nice, expected something dryish. Medium-bodied, good balance acidity initial entry thoughts. Minerally, peach, nectarine, lemon too. Nice smooth finish that lingers, hint of sweetness in the mid-palate and finishes with a blast of tropical fruit. I could mention some of the varietals this reminds me of but that would be too much of a clue, at this time.
Heck, I`m off to the kitchen.

**** So there you are! We need........

Year.
Main grape.
Area of production/Appellation (edit).
Producer.

My first impression is Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley, but your writing suggests a more obscure wine. Asking for the "area of production" rather than appelation suggests somewhere without a well-developed appelation scheme.

So, I'm thinking more like a Moschofilero from Greece (Mantinia) or a Torrontes from Argentina.

Well, yeah get your point. Appellation it is!

Not Chenin Blanc.
Argentina, nope.
Greece, sorry.

It is old world. I should also add that the seafood was not a great match(surprise).

That was my first instinct upon reading the thread. Good guess, Andrew, whether we're right or wrong.

Hmm...funny because I was going to guess the Chateau st. Michelle Riesling Eroica, but it's obviously not that.

The Albarino is likely a good guess, as they tend to have peachy and floral notes. Also Bob just bought one!

Correct. Congrats to another seasoned white wine veteran!!! David is right of course, its the `05 Terras Gauda O Rosal and a blend of Albarino, Caino Branco and Loureira. Over in the UK, this wine seems much acclaimed at around a tenner but I paid close to $24.00 Cdn.
I was surprised at the richness and thoughts of riesling and viognier flashed before me! Must try another example to fully appreciate this style.

Wow! I guess last night was a good one to be up late. I'll have to come up with a good (meaning difficult  ) wine to post sometime soon. Perhaps I'll do one of my Christmas presents. My girlfriend says she got me four bottles, and she knows I like the obscure stuff.

Have you all ever tried Albarino with Asian food? I had a nice cheap one with Indian spinach the other day (Saag Paneer) and it seemed to work well with the acidity of the spinach.

You make it sound like you think you overpaid but I see the current exchange rate is around $2.26 Cdn. per pound sterling, os that's pretty much the same price on both sides of the water, no?
