2002 Château Léoville Poyferré - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (10/19/2014)
Continuing to explore 2002 Bordeaux, the Leoville Poyferre has the vintage chunkiness. It also has a good deal of fruit, so while rustic in impression, it is enjoyable as a partner to food, and even on its own if you are a little masochistic. I see no signs of imminent decline, so my other bottles will sleep for a while, as I focus on the 2001.

2002 was a good vintage in Burgundy. Not so much in Bordeaux?

I don't think it's a bad Bordeaux vintage at all. It's more tannic than the crowd pleasers, and old school.
