WTN: Legan of Gentlemen

by David M. Bueker » Tue Oct 14, 2014 7:09 pm

2012 Arnot-Roberts Pinot Noir Legan Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (10/14/2014)
What have we here? Is it California? Is it Marsannay? The fruit is crisp and crunchy, tending to the brighter red end of the spectrum, but there is also an attractive loaminess in the aromatics, which makes the wine much more complex. First sip is disarmingly acidic, even prickly, but 15 minutes in the glass and that settles down to a more balanced profile. Still it's not for the faint of heart, though it appeals to this Riesling fanatacist. This needs a rich, fatty fish accompaniment, or some other pairing to make profitable use of its racy profile.

Thanks.

You likely would not be wild about the pricing. ;)

Night two: the acidity has backed down, and the wine now displays a low but noticeable tannic spine. Fruit has deepened, remaining in the red area, but richer. The loaminess in the aromatics carries through a little more to the palate. 24 hours of air has been good to this wine.
