Good WS Issue...

by TomHill » Tue Oct 07, 2014 7:39 pm

Usually, it takes me about all of 15 min to read thru the WineSphincter. The Oct 31 issue arrived last week and was actually a decent read:
1. Kramer had a good/thoughtful column about American wine drinkers questioning the sanctity of terroir.
2. AllisonNapjus had an interesting article on the Renaissance in Sicily, highlighting 7 producers she likes, including ArriannaOcchipinti, whose wines continue to fail to impress me.
3. RobertCamuto had an interesting article on the wines of Umbria.
4. MitchFrank had a good article on the Masters of the Mosel, highlighting the Haag brothers.
5. EvanDawson had a very good article on how Montfaucon is lifting the profile of the Lirac AC.

Alas, though, ole Marv has me in his grasp. After I read this issue in 45 minutes, I immediately rushed out and bought a MercedesBenz, two SalvatoreFerragamo coats, a box of Daviadoff cigars that received a 95 rating, a RadiomirPanerai watch w/ a genuine leather wristband, a Bombadier personal jet to get me down to SantaFe, and signed up for the WS 34'th Annual NewYork Wine Experience, and made a list of 96-100 pt wines I must buy. Jeez...this mag costs me big $$$$'s.

Lovely sarcasm, though your dissing of Occhipinti has knocked you down several notches in my book.

Awwww, David....I'm crushed. Life is no longer worth living!!! :-)

I've had maybe 4-5 Occhipinti wines so far. I've actually liked most of them. Only one was what I regarded as
flawed/undrinkable. They have been interesting and better than most Sicilian wines....but better than many of the "natural" wines I've tried. But they have not (yet) knocked my socks off. But I'll keep trying them...just for intellectual reasons.
