On a scorching hot day in Dry Creek , Da Vero hosted their fall party. Despite the heat, the food was amazing (farm raised pork/beef sliders and bruschetta!). Highlight wines:

2012 Barbera. Quite a hit of natural wine savory funk on the nose, but not bretty at all on the palate. Classic barbera berry fruit with some nice acidity.
2009 Hawk Mountain Sangiovese. This was VERY nice to me. Definitely on the earthy/savory/not sweet side of Sangiovese. A big success!

Up the road, and I had to taste the new 2012 "Organic" Syrah at Preston Family. Wow. This remains one of my favorite Syrahs. Plum skins, extremely floral, hint of funkyness. Smooth texture. Delicious stuff!

2013 Broc Cellars Vine Star Zinfandel. About as unique a zinfandel as I can remember. 12.5% alcohol....light, fruity, a hint of earthy funk, definitely zin berry fruit but absolutely no fruit bomb character. Went very well with pulled pork tacos!
