Notes from the food tasting for the International Wine and Food Society Philippines Branch President's Dinner. We also had a board meeting at the same time and since I was the secretary of the meeting, I couldn't really concentrate too much on the wines, hence the very short notes.
Meyer Family McLean Creek Road Chardonnay 2012 (Okanagan BC) - Gently oaked, just the right amount. White pepper, nuts, unripe pineapple. A little tart on the finish. Very pleasant.
Louis Chavy Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatieres 2005 - Deep yellow gold. I thought it would be oxidized or worse because of the advanced color but it was still quite good. Very gentle flavor. Some orange notes. Not a lot of complexity but a good wine.
Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru1995 - A little musty. Soft and dry. Chalky minerality. Nice enough.
Chateau Figeac 2001 - Seems a little older than its age. Leathery, somewhat dried out berry fruit. Quite dry.
Chateau Cos d'Estournel 1994 - Medium-bodied. Soy sauce and smoke. Pruney. A little hollowed out on the palate. Past best. Best to drink up.
Marquis d'Angerville Clos de Ducs Volnay 1er Cru 1996 - Very fragrant. Lots of red berry. Raspberry, strawberry and red cherry. Some dried herb notes as well. Very elegant and about perfect now.
Vieux Chateau Certan 1995 - Fleshy, plums and cedar. Very dry. Still firm on the finish. Could probably go on for a few more years.
Champagne Billecart-Salmon Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon Brut Rose 1996 - Medium gold, not a lot of bubbles. Seems older than it is. White pepper, lemon curd and caramel. Slight oxidative note. Seems tired. Maybe not stored well.
