WTN: 2012 Leitz Klosterlay Kabinett

by David M. Bueker » Fri Sep 26, 2014 12:40 pm

2012 Weingut Josef Leitz Rüdesheimer Klosterlay Riesling Kabinett - Germany, Rheingau (9/25/2014)
Cannot do much better than this for $15. Ripe melon and peach fruit with more than ample acidity to balance the moderate sweetness. This is an excellent vintage of the Klosterlay, which makes sense, as it's an excellent vintage for Johannes. Past experience also says it will age effortlessly for 10+ years no problem. I'm still holding 2001s that are in prime form.

Well I have tasted the '13 Dragonstone, and it's really good, so I bet you could just move on to the 2013 Klosterlay.

Thank you for the note, David. The Klosterlay always been a good value, but I guess we shall see which of Leitz' wines Kevin Pike and Schatzi choose to import in the future.

Terrific `12 and will stock up with more this afternoon. I do have the `11 in the cellar but am interested in holding on to see how it will develope.
As usual, David notes are spot on. I thought the acidity level was very good, I do have problems with acidity and sweetness.
