Tried these two Syrahs last night:
1. Novy Syrah Page-NordVnyd/NapaVlly (15.2%) 2005: Dark color; strong blueberry/blackberry/Syrah light toasty/pencilly/Siduri oak/smokey attractive nose; quite tart/lean/metallic/tangy light blueberry/blackberry/Syrah rather pencilly/smokey/oak flavor w/ some astringent/angular/tried-out tannins; med.long lean/tart/metallic some blueberry/Syrah pencilly/oak finish w/ rather tangy/angular tannins; quite a nice nose but rather tangy/angular on the palate & seems to be drying out already.

2. Jaffurs Syrah SBC (14.9%) 2005: Very dark near black color; very strong boysenberry/blackberry/Syrah/ripe rather peppery/pungent/smokey/roasted/licorice/RCCola some toasty/charred/oak complex nose; bit tart very strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah/peppery/spicy/ripe rather charred/toasty/oak classic SBC Syrah flavor w/ firm/hard tannins; very long rather hard/tannic strong blackberry/Syrah/boysenberry/spicy/peppery/ripe strong charred/oak finish; a pretty classic SBC Syrah but may never come into balance w/ the tannins.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Typically, Adam's Page-Nord Syrah is my least favorite of his single vnyd Syrahs...it just doesn't seem as interesting as his other Syrahs. I've had some, however, that have aged into pretty good Syrah. I liked the nose on this one a lot, but iit seemed to be drying out and pretty tangy/metallic on the palate & don't think more age is going to help.
