WTN: Donkey&Goat Chard Untended '09...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Sep 08, 2014 8:50 pm

Since I just ordered some new D&G Fall Release wines, thought I'd try w/ dinner:
1. Donkey&Goat Chard AndersonVlly (Untended; Dave'sVnyd, 31 yr old vines; Fukuoka farmed; 72 cs; U) 2009: Med.gold color; light toasty/pencilly/oak/bit smokey melony/appley/Chard/lemony light chalky/mineral slight spicy/nutmeg quite attractive nose; rather tart/tangy/lean strong appley/lemony/Chard/melony spicy/nutmeg pencilly/light oak/smokey slight chalky/mineral flavor w/ long/lingering tangy/grapefruity/tart finish; quite a nice Chard in a more restrained style favored by the AFWE; can still go another 4-6 yrs. $32.00

I need to look for this wine. I have had La Clarine wines from the Sierra Foothills which were Fukuoka farmed. Didn't know anyone was doing it up in Anderson Valley. Thanks for the note Tim.

Well, Shaji......I'm not sure (heck..I know for sure) I would be able to identify Fukuoka-farmed grapes from tasting a wine.
But I can sure tell a Fukuoka-farmed vnyd by looking at it....they look...ugly.

I first heard of Fukuoka-farming some 10-12 yrs ago from EmilioCastelli, over in the GreenVlly of RussianRiver. He farms his
Nebbiolo (and a bit of Sangio) by Fukuoka. He always takes umbrage when I tell him his vnyd looks like hell. But you can't
argue w/ the results it gets from it.

Have to admit I am DISAPPOINTED. I thought the vineyard was ABANDONED when Jarred found the chardonnay grapes! Not just farmed sloppily! 8)

That was sorta my impression as well, Brian. To tell the truth, how do you tell an abandoned vnyd from one farmed by Fukuoka?? :-)
