Tried this last night after two others went down the drain:
1. HopKilnWnry Zin RRV (14.2%) MartinGriffin/Healdsburg 1988: Very dark color w/ light bricking; rather dusty/OV/earthy light blackberry/Zin/spicy/peppery slight vanilla/Am.oak slight cedary/pencilly/oldZin/smokey very slight leathery/brett bit ozone/metallic/pungent complex nose; soft some blackberry/Zin/peppery/spicy light vanilla/toasty/oak slight bretty/leathery rustic/dusty/OV complex flavor w/ light/drying tannins; med.long light blackberry/Zin/peppery dusty/OV light toasty/oak slight pungent/metallic finish w/ light/astringent tannins; starting to dry out & a bit astringent but still some blackberry fruit and hanging in there well and a pleasure to drink.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Back in it's day, under MartyGriffin, HopKiln made some amazing Zin/PS and the reknowned MartyGriffin BigRed, all from old vines on the property. Founded in 1974 until he sold it in about 2004. Marty is still alive and a strong activist in environmental causes.
Alas, the new owners pulled the old vines and put in (more profitable) Pinot & Chard. When I tasted thru some of the wines last Spring, I thought they were pleasant enough...but just that. Their winemaker is ChuckMansfield, son of RonMansfield, the go-to guy for vnyds up in ElDoradoCnty. The two also make Rhone-style wines from their GoldBudRanch up in ElDorado.
