Tried this last night from my stash:
1. EdmundsStJohn Zin NapaVlly (TW) Berkeley 1987: Med.dark color w/ little bricking; quite spicy blackberry/Zin/peppery some dusty/OV/earthy bit rustic/old-timey slight alcoholic beautiful/complex oldZin nose; soft rather earthy/dusty/OV some blacknerry/Zin very spicy/peppery bit alcoholic some rustic/earthy/old-timey bit smokey/pungent/peppery complex flavor w/ light/drying/astringent tannins; very long slight alcoholic some blackberry/Zin/earthy/mushroomy rustic/old-timey some earthy/dusty/OV light cedary/pencilly/oak finish w/ light drying/astringent tannins; lots of dusty/rustic/old-timey character but still very much alive w/ some blackberry/Zin fruit; reminds mme a bit of some of the Ridge HowellMtn Zins of the early '70's at 15-20 yrs of age. $12.90 (PMW)

1. This was, I believe, from Steve's 2'nd vintage. Made in Berkeley afore he moved down to Emeryville. Not sure where the grapes for this came from. Maybe his first from ChesterBrandlin's vnyd??
I was expecting this wine to be pretty shot. As soon as I poured the first glass, I could tell from the color it was still alive. It's starting to dry out a bit on the palate, but still a very-much alive wine in a rustic/old-timey way.
