Tried these two over the weekend:
1. Drew Syrah OldWesty-AlisosVnyd/SBC (14.5%; 75 cs) Buellton 2003: Very dark color w/ little bricking; very strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah bit peppery/smokey/meaty light toasty/oak slight graphite/pungent fairly complex nose; bit tart some peppery/blackberry/Syrah slight pungent/graphite/licorice flavor w/ hard/rough/astringent tannins; med.long some blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah/peppery/graphite/pungent finish w/ hard/astringent tannins; a very attractive nose w/ some complexity but drying out on the palate considerably.

2. Drew Syrah MorehouseVnyd/SantaYnezVlly (14.1%; 150 cs) 2003: Dark color w/ slight bricking; slight funky/meaty/earthy lighter blackberry/Syrah slight smokey/oak bit aged/Rhonish nose; soft rather hard/tannic/astringent slight pungent/funky/cedary/old red little fruit flavor; softer med.long funky/pungent/mettalic/earthy slight blackberry/Syrah finish w/ astringent/dried-out tannins; cracking up on the shoals of old age and not a lot of pleasure, just intellectual interest.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. These two were made afore Jason & Molly moved up to MendoCnty. These were of the their earlier style when bigger was better. The Syrahs they make now (Valenti & Perli vnyds) are much more restrained and elegant in style. I'd like to see what a SBC Syrah they make nowadays would be like.
