Dinner tonight. I raided a local wine merchant's Cabinet of Dusty Bottles, so I'm going to bring a Clos Du Val 1992. I've never had a wine this old. For complete contrast in style and youthfulness, I think I'll also contribute a 2000 (Heidi Barret) Showket smooth fruit bomb (yes, I can appreciate both). Finally, depending on the number of people, I will bring as a backup (also in case the '92 is bad) the ESJ Rocks and Gravel.

It is Italian this weekend, both nights. Will be opening a '95 Tignanello tonight and on Saturday a '98 Valentini Trebiano d'Abruzzo along with a forgotten producer of Tocai in NE Italy.

Tonight it's 2005 Strub Niersteiner Paterberg Riesling Spatlese***.

Tomorrow it's 1996 Pontet Canet.

Sunday...who knows.

Burgundy and a cornish hen is what's in the plan for Sunday. Saturday - no clue yet, though I may make lentils or a vegetable curry. Or maybe tripe soup.

Bob, it'd be obligatorily Hungarian!

(No rhyme or reason, really, other than the fact that both are traditionally Eastern European ... :o )

Talking about hot, I tasted a real monster this evening from the warm area of Toro. The`00 Piedra Estancia, around $39 Cdn. Otto would have appreciated this spoofy wine for sure!!!! The wine had a lot going for it but one tasting glass was all I had. Maybe Joe P will chip in here?
