Can the top four pubs' wine ratings be correlated?

by Robin Garr » Wed Jul 30, 2014 5:12 pm

"Is there a consensus among the wine critics at four major wine publications?  Or do the ratings depend upon who happened to taste the wine?" Fascinating article from an interesting blog. http://AcademicWino.com. Why have I never heard of this blog before? Do any of you follow it?

Can't say I read every word, but yes, it is one of the blogs I like to keep an eye on. I think it has only been going a few years. I get the impression it has been more heavily invested in by Becca (in terms of time and effort) more recently, so it might have crept on up you, Robin.

On the article discussed, I would like to probe into some of the details, but doubt I would get time. I am a little surprised by how some correlations can be so high, while others so low. Could it be that non-blind tasters are aware of how highly the wines have been scored in other publications? I am not suggesting that they deliberately set out to replicate the scores, but any awareness at all could affect scoring subconsciously.
