WTN: A TJ's Steal..(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sat Jun 28, 2014 5:11 pm

Saw a new wine on the shelf at the TJ's in SantaFe, so we tried:
1. RGMV CentralCoast WW (46% Roussanne/33% GrenacheBlanc/9% Marsanne/12% Viognier; 13.25%) CentralCoastWineWarehouse/SantaMaria 2011: Med.gold color; quite fragrant Rouss/GB/floral/honeysuckle light spicy/nutmeg very pretty/perfumed nose; bit soft ripe/lush/textured fragrant/floral/honeysuckle/honeyed spicy/nutmeg light earthy flavor; med.long soft/rich/lush ripe/floral/honeysuckle/honeyed/Rouss light spicy/nutmeg really pretty finish; much like the TablasCreek Patelin Blanc at one 4'th the price; would like a bit more acidity but a screaming deal at $3.99 (TJ)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. A year ago, TJ's brought in a white Rhone blend that they called ComicRevolution. It's been long gone from the shelves. I spotted this wine today, noted that is was the same producer, so thought that I'd take it on a test drive. Alas, the ComicRevolution was priced at $6.99, so they've forced a price cut on us. It's not quite as good as the CR, but danged close.
Not sure what the RGMV stands for...would guess RobertGMiller Very good stuff. It's made by the Millers at the CentralCoast Wine Coop, where CraigJaffurs and lots of other folks started out. If you're needing a cheap white for SummerTime drinking...this one's for you.

Went straight to TJ's after reading Tom's note. The wine was not on the shelves, but the clerk said they were expecting it on Friday this week. Got her to hold a 6-pack for me. More later if I can find this thread then.

I stopped by TJ's yesterday and sure enough I had 6 bottles of the RGMV white waiting. Picked it up, came home and chilled a bottle And lemming like I have to agree with Tom's assessment. I hope this isn't a one time deal. There was four more bottles on the shelf, and maybe I'll stop by there again today and see if they are still there. I also think that Tom was right about who produced the wine. click the link.

The link is to GaryMiller's Wine Works, who makes his wines up in Napa, mostly from NorthCoast grapes.
The Miller's I referred to are the owners of BienNacidoVnyd and own/run the CentralCoastWineCoop in SantaMaria,
which was the btlg location of the RGMV from TJ's.
Glad you liked the wine, Bob. I had another btl this weekend and still thought it was delicious, though light.
It's dry & speaks of Roussanne/GrenacheBlanc.

I wonder what it would be like with 2-3 years on it. The vintage is 2011 so it has 2 vintage years now, and given the higher percentage of roussanne with an accompany of nearly 10% marsanne, it just might last 5 years. However, also given that it won't be available in that time frame I won't bother to try aging any of my stash.

TJ's is opening locally in a few months, probably early fall, but, unless NY laws change, won't be able to get any of their wines.
