Domaine de la Louvetrie (Jo Landron) Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Amphibolite Nature 2012
Landron's Muscadet is legendary and much hyped by those who enjoy these dry, saline whites. But, because I live in a country that does its best to restrict the population's access to a wide variety of wine, I had never tried one before tonight. I knew it only by reputation.

But if this wine is representative, Landron fully deserves his legendary reputation. From what I have read, this should have been a dry, light wine so I was surprised that it actually had some meat around its bones. It is still a dry, light wine but it is almost what one might call a fruit-forward style of Muscadet. It is all about that wet-rock neutrality; but like the best Sakes, this is paradoxically hugely interesting neutrality. Transcendental neutrality is perhaps what this rare quality should be called - it's what you find in the best Chablis, Sake and Muscadet.

My first acquaintance made such a positive impression that I think I'll make an effort to become better acquainted with them.

Though our access to wines is severely limited, one great thing about living here is our access to good fish. And I must say that the common whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus) and Amphibolite was quite the perfect dinner.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.
