2011 Kutch Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (6/18/2014)
So just as I predicted not long ago, I did not have the willpower to allow my lone remaining bottle of this wine to rest. I'm not sad I opened it though, as the wine performed just as I expected it would. Lots of floral elements, and a beautiful expression of red fruit. On the palate it was almost crunchy, with structural support that I rarely find in regional Pinots. I was more than subtly reminded of a top 1er cru from somewhere such as Pernand (e.g. CdB Ile de Vergelsses). It's still a California Pinot Noir, but one that expresses the capability of the true Sonoma Coast to provide wines of vibrant fruit and supporting structure.

David, if you ever consider taking a summer vacation on the left coast, you should look into the West of West Festival in Sebastopol in early August. I'm skipping it this year (have a trip to Las Vegas in September for a nephew's wedding) but will probably attend again in 2015. It's a fun two-three day event and I combine it with time in San Francisco and Monterey County and some winery visits in Sonoma County.
