I bought a couple a bottles of this Chalk Hill 20012 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir partly because I like Chalk Hill and mostly because I love Sonoma Coast Pinot Noirs ( see Failla 2009) but this was a disappointment. Sure there was a lot of dark cherry fruit but with big ABV of 14.5 to follow and no real non-fruit complexity. I will keep looking but Failla still is what rocks my boat.

I don't have any experience with the Chalk Hill wines and that may be as good as it will get, but sometimes the Sonoma Coast wines need a few years in bottle to reach their prime.

Sonoma Coast is a huge, unwieldy appelation. There's Sonoma Coast and then there is Sonoma Roast.

Wasn't aware that Chalk Hill made a PN until your post, have enjoyed their cabs, SB and chards over the years.
