WTN: 2007 Pépière Granite de Clisson

by David M. Bueker » Mon May 26, 2014 3:54 pm

2007 Domaine de la Pépière (Marc Ollivier) Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Granite de Clisson - France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine (5/26/2014)
Brought a mag of this to a party, so no formal notes, but I can say that this is the kind of Muscadet I like. It is richer than normal, and has more breadth to the aromas and flavors. It's still quite linear and precise compared to other wines, but it is in no way severe. Great with the grilled shrimp kabobs.

This is a superb wine. It might be a bit on the big side for a Muscadet, but I still thought it was among the best I've had. Sadly, I drank my last bottle last summer. I know these age well, but they were just too tasty young for me to cellar them.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

A wine that, IMO, competes easily with Grand Cru Chablis.
And one of, if not the most, extraordinary Muscadets of my life.
Best, Jim

That's probably why I like it so much. It sure is cheaper than Raveneau (though I am not making an organoleptic comparison with Raveneau which I find to be hors classe in Chablis).

I have an unopened case of the 2005 in my cellar, with a note on the side saying to start drinking it in 2015. But I see CT TNs indicate it is singing now, so I guess I'll try a bottle this week.
