WTN: Veuve Doussot

I opened this Champagne, the 2008 Brut, with crab cakes last night and was surprised at how tart it first was. This dissapated to reveal lots of pear and citrus flavors with persistent fine bead and balancing acidity but not now overbearing. My remaining bottle will be hidden away for,I hope, at least 10 years. Great potential here.

Hi Jim,

We have been drinking quite a bit of the Veuve Doussot through WTSO. I have have quite pleased with it. We have actually started decanting this wine for about 15 minutes before drinking. That gives some time for the tartness to burn off.

Unfortunately, the half life of champagne at our house is very brief. The Veuve Doussot won't see 10 months let alone 10 years.

PS: You can call WTSO directly and they will sell wine to you out of inventory if they have it.

Hi Sam, I love Champagne with some age on it, my oldest is 1996 (not that old) so I'll see what my remaining bottle evolves into.

Oh, we do love old champagne, Jim! We just aren't good at allowing it to get old. I do have some '96 Dom and a 2000 Cristal that I traded for after they were already aged. Had they been in my possession from the outset they would probably have been consumed long ago.
