With sausages. Not just any old crappy sausages, but the proper Teutonic ones which go so well with Rieslings - and now I know - GVs.

  • 1996 Josef Biffar Deidesheimer Herrgottsacker Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Pfalz (12/11/2006)
AP 5 106 026 034 97. 12,5%. A rather golden and mature colour. The nose is starting to be mature also, with great complexity and depth, slight petrol, plentiful minerality and gorgeous floral Rieslingfruit. At times it seems there is the slightest hint of botrytis also. The palate is very acid forward, but for me at least, has entirely sufficent fruit to keep it balance. Very intense and long and mineral. It tastes Trocken, though it supposedly has some RS in it. Very nice!
  • 2005 Jurtschitsch/Sonnhof Grüner Veltliner Steinhaus - Austria, Niederösterreich, Kamptal, Langenlois (12/11/2006)
A very mineral nose and typical GV in its slightly peppery and floral and earthy scents. The palate is rather full bodied and the alcohol is a bit noticable though the label states only 12%, but the fruit is big as are the acids and minerals. Nice stuff.
