WTN: 2010 Babcock Pinot Noir Slice of Heaven

Rita's Crown Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County, CA. 13.7% alcohol by volume. Rita's Crown Vineyard is one of the highest elevation plantings in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes.
The wine is darkly colored and nearly opaque. The nose suggests a handful of mixed dark berries including mulberries and blueberries. On the palate some cardamom provides accents for the dark fruit flavors. I think I'm picking up some oak notes too.
The overall impression I had was of something rich, robust and rewarding. This is not a dainty Pinot but it is pleasurable.

It has been my experience that Brian, or is it Bryan, never makes dainty wines so your report isn't a surprise. His wines are usually quite bold. In fact, come to think of it, we've mostly had whites from him. His Eleven Oaks Sauv Blanc used to be one of our favorites (used to = when we lived where it was easily available, unlike now). Just unpacked two bottles of his chardonnay that I picked up to fill out a case of other things, based on those old memories.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
