WTN: The only bottle in the world

Or at least, the only bottle on all of CellarTracker, which is almost the same thing. With roast turkey last night:

1996 Lequin-Colin 1er Cru Clos Morgeot Chassagne Montrachet (rouge):
Very good ruby color for it's age. Nose of dried cherries. On the palate, more cherries, some spice, celery and leather. Nice mouthfeel, bright acidity and a decent finish created a good experience that held up well over the two hours it took us to drain the bottle. Pretty happy with it overall, especially when you consider that I only paid $10 (no idea where) for it back in the day.

I guess the take-away is that no self-respecting burgundy buff admits to drinking chassagne-montrachet rouge, and those who do drink them early when no one's looking. :) I have no idea when or how I acquired this, but I'm sure glad I did AND that I lost it in the cellar. Wines like this are life-affirming.

Tonight we mistakenly opened a Vincent & Sofie Morey '10 Bourgogne Blanc (Chassagne). I was saving for a dinner along with one of their Chasagne-Montrechet reds, which are also very good. But WTH, we broke out some good charcuterie and enjoyed ourselves. A lot worse things can happen (and probably will). We first finished an opened bottle of Tendil & Lombardi Champagne, Blanc de Noirs NV Brut, this was enjoyable, but nothing to write home about (88-89 pts). The Morey Bourgogne was delightful (I reported earlier about the high quality of their '10 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge) served with Stilton cheese, smoked salmon, Brie, olives and crackers. We should all live like this at least once a week, and not necessarily on the week-end. And with dinner of chicken, slaw, salad, I poured the '11 George Deboeuf Beaujolais-Villages. I am going out on a limb and saying that this vintage is the best Beaujolais vintage I've ever seen. If you tasted this wine alongside 5 other red Burgundies of any stripe (village level and below) it would not come in last. A delicious wine with food and a great value at around $10-$11. Just close your eyes (forget about what you paid for it) and enjoy a tasty wine. And it can be almost any of the '11's from any producer.

Actually Jenise, you are now officially a hipster in training. Next time try complaining that the wine needed 20 more years.

Richard, I love your style!

David, definitely not a hipster. I wasn't claiming to be a burgundy buff--I love the stuff, but there's too much I don't know about it--I just know that it's not cool to like C-M reds. Or is that what makes me a hipster? See? I'm so unhip I don't even know. :)

It's only slightly below enjoying a nice, jammy Aussie shiraz in uncoolness, Jenise. That is why I never post my...er, my "friends" who actually drink that stuff never post their shiraz notes on the WLDG.
