WTN: 2010 Kerloo Cellars La Colline Vineyard Syrah

2010 Kerloo Cellars La Colline Vineyard Syrah, Washington
Not decanted. Initial and offputting bretty nose faded only partially with time in the glass. This brett was more poop than animale, so not attractive. Underneath the poop, charred wood and black raspberry. On the palate, more raspberry, white pepper, and green olive segue into a coffee and a parsley-like and agreeable chlorophyll note on the finish. Good acidity and an absence of apparent new oak lend stress the Euro-style intentions; I'd be quite excited about this wine were it not for the brett. This bottle might be a one-off in the taint department: three other reviews on Cellartracker do not note it.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I hope it's a one-off. I tasted this at the winery and thought it was delightful -- and no brett was apparent. Of course, at the winery, it was served from a decanter and I didn't ask how long it had been open, so it may have been consumed under optimal conditions. Haven't opened any of my bottles yet, so we'll see.

Bruce, this didn't seem like the kind of brett that would go away; it wasn't the kind you would call 'funk', usually meaning that it was not at all offensive. This is the kind I've had in young bottles of other wines and eventually found completely overrunning other bottles after a few years had passed. Come to think of it, we only had a glass each of it the other night, the rest is in the fridge. I'll check on that later and report back. Anyway, your bottles may be fine--this may have been a bad barrel.
