Wine: Porca de Marca Douro Reserva Tinto 2001 13.5% abv
Medium garnet fading to a slightly pinkish purple edge. Nose of boysenberries, red raspberries, strawberries and a hint of dusty old leather. Nicely balanced with good tannic structure, fresh acidity, and red and black fruit. Tantalizing taste of cherry and blackberry. Medium long finish of tart fruit ending in a tannic twang (tart drying and slighly bitter tannins).
Great food wine as it matched well with a spicy (just enough pepper to warm the tongue) tomato beef vegetable homemade soup. The wine mellowed out with food enhancing the smooth sweet fruit on the midpalate and giving a delightful fruity finish. Good sipper too.
Overall impression: Best food wine I have had from Portugal in a long time. Would definitely buy again.
