Would someone like to propose a Wine Focus topic for May?

Might be time to revisit Alsace, prices are not too bad for many of the wines.

Well the Boxler I just opened cost $60, but not all Alsatian wines are so expensive.

The Boxler sounded awesome though, David. Are you concurring that Alsace might make a good topic?

Sure. With a nod to the more specifically Alsatian varieties (e.g. Muscat, Gewurz) from elsewhere?

Would that include Riesling? That is the first that comes to mind when you mention Alsatian wines.

I'll start the ball rolling with a 2011 Seltz Res. Pinot Blanc. from Alsace This was excellent with a viscous texture and lots of spicey pear and a touch of peach flavors. Medium straw in color with 14.5% abv. $18.00 by Ohio prices

Sure, though I would not want to turn it into a Riesling focus from all over, as we have done that multiple times.

Another vote here for Alsace. For most of June I'll be there and in Burgundy and Champagne, but recent doings and wine in Alsace is what I would like to hear about in this forum as we are woefully short of Alsace wines in my town (Seattle) and I haven't been in Alsace in many years. So please educate me.

Alsace is great.

There should be plenty here but I haven't seen many familiar estate names amongst the labels on the shelves; a good opportunity to experiment! Any day soon my new wine fridges should arrive and then the oldsters in my collection will be unboxed. Lately I had one or two suffering from premox :( , though at 10 years + perhaps the "pre" is no longer apt.

Maybe limit it to "Alsatian-style" Riesling? To me, that is a meaningful distinction, although I'm far from expert on this particular niche. Would you agree that that works, David, at least as a self-defined category without rigid dogma?

Jim, since this is the "planning topic" which will be replaced by the actual Wine Focus thread, would you mind re-posting this when I get the Focus started in a few minutes? I'd hate to lose it!
