2012 Edmunds St. John Syrah Fenaughty - USA, California, Sierra Foothills, El Dorado County (4/27/2014)
When I first opened this bottle 29 hours ago it was tight as a drum. It was not giving anything. So I corked it up and put it back in the wine cellar for a time out. Now more than a day later there is much more expressiveness, with a grapey, meaty nose and flavors that go deep as a desert well seeking water. This is really too soon to be drinking this, but I bought enough to follow this throughout its life. This is just the first peek at what is barely recovered from bottling. I love the depth, and with memories of the 2011 which behaved in the exact same way on release, I am ready to wait a year before sampling the 2012 again. Patience. Patience. Patience.
