WTN: Solminer Syrah deLandaEstate '12..(short/boring)

by TomHill » Fri Apr 25, 2014 11:46 am

Tried this (finally) last night:
1. Solminer Syrah deLandaVnyd/SantaYnezVlly/Estate (13%; www.Solminer.com) Lompoc 2012: Med.color; strong blueberry/blackberry/Syrah rather spicy light peppery quite perfumey/attractive nose; slightly tart quite spicy strong blueberry/blackberry/Syrah light peppery/earthy balanced light oak flavor w/ light/gentle tannins; med.long bit tart/lean quite spicy strong blueberry/Syrah/bright slight earthy/peppery finish w/ light/smooth tannins; not a big Syrah but quite spicy; a rather pretty/restrained/understated rendition of SYV Syrah; reminds me a lot of Qupe or EdStJohn in style. $34.00

1. I hate wines like this. I cracked this open as I started to cook dinner (late) after fencing. This is one of those wines that's so friggin' tasty that you keep going back for another glass. By the time I'd set dinner on the table, the btl was over half drained. I hate wines that do that.
Solminer is wnry of Anna & David deLaski. They have an Austrian winemaking background and make a very fine Gruner and dry Riesling. This is their 2'nd Syrah from their Estate vnyd in LosOlivos. This is not a big Syrah of the Jaffurs or Beckmen style. It would be right at home in a IPoB tasting, if'n they allowed Syrahs (Raj only allows Chard & Pinot).
