One is tempted to say "so what?", "isn't that obvious?" or "what a silly thing to vote about!". However wine is under heavy attack in France from the ayatollahs of Public Health and the advocates of the beautiful body, so this amendment unanimously voted by the Senate to a law on agriculture has real significance.
Roughly translated as -
"Wine, product of the vine, and wine growing terroirs make part of the cultural, gastronomic and landscape heritage of France."
"Wine is the expression of a living heritage and is part of the cultural, literary and also gastronomic, landscape, architectural, industrial, economic and social heritages with of course thousands of jobs."
At a time when unemployment is running at about 12% and still growing, this last point certainly has heavy weight.
