Caseda GWT MendoCnty (13.7%) CullerWnry/StHelena 2011:Med.gold color (skin-contact?); strong lychee/spicy/GWT bit nutmeg/earthy rather low-key/floral/orangey quite lovely nose; soft/rich/lush dry slightly bitter low-key lychee/GWT/spicy/earthy bit tangy/metallic pleasant flavor; short bit watery/dilute light floral/lychee/GWT dry slightly bitter/tangy/metallic finish; quite an attractive/pleasant nose but a bit bland/dilute on the palate; needs more acidity; a nice drinkable white w/ low-key GWT character at a very good price. $10.00 (WoP)

Jana Riesling Mendocino "OldVine" NelsonRanch (34 yr old vines; 9.5%; Med.dry) JanaWnry/StHelena 2009: Med.light gold color; beautiful R/Mosel valve oil/gout de petrol/mineral/steely/smokey slight earthy/dusty complex nose; fairly tart/tangy bit off-dry dusty/earthy some floral/pineapple/R light gout de petrol/steely/stony lovely complex flavor; very long some tart/tangy/metallic off-dry pleasant floral/pineapple/R light Mosel valve oil/slatey/stony finish; a beautiful very Germanic nose but would like a bit more impact on the palate; a lovely rendition of Calif Riesling. $18.00 (CB)

2. Jana: This is a wine made by Scott & Jana Harvey. Scott spent a yr in Germany as a high-school student, living w/ a family that had vnyds/wnry there. Scott probably makes some of the best R in Calif, including some from Michigan & FingerLakes grapes. I was impressed by the Germanic character of this R.
