Was just looking up a bunch of stuff and remembered recommending Maison Bleue wines to you. Here's something I just plucked off their website, which should explain why I am sure you'd be interested in the wines for their sake alone, but it also reveals an almost-local connection to you in Omaha that I didn't realize before. So, possibly even more interesting! Here:

Meet the Winemaker
Jon Meuret graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and Chemistry as well as Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of Iowa. While practicing in the Kansas City area, he helped start a vineyard and winery dedicated to the growing and production of vinifera varieties. It was during this time that Jon decided to make the transition from Dentist to full-time vigneron. He has completed numerous viticulture and enology courses through Missouri State, U.C. Davis and Washington State University. He was also fortunate to have been consulted by a few vintners located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Languedoc-Roussillon, and Oregon. Jon has had a long affection for Rhône wines and saw the success Washington was having with Syrah as well as other varieties. It wasn’t long before he realized that this is where he would start Maison Bleue Winery and his lifelong focus of Rhône-style wines.

" A highly regarded producer of Syrah and Grenache wines in Washington State." - Jancis Robinson, MW

“Maison Bleue Family Winery may be the most compelling new producer uncovered in my 2010 trip to Washington.” - Jay Miller, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“Rhône varieties and blends are the stock in trade, and belong in the first rank of such wines being made anywhere in the country.” - Paul Gregutt, Wine Enthusiast Magazine

"Incredibly French in style, these wines show top-notch aromatics as well as perfectly proportioned palates that have real depth and density." - Jeb Dunnuck, The Rhône Report

"Perhaps no winemaker has impressed me as much recently with his deft touch with whites and reds, as Jon Meuret from Maison Bleue Winery.” - Sean Sullivan, Washington Wine Report

“As I stated in my review of Maison Bleue’s 2009 whites, I believe Jon Meuret has taken white wine making to a new, higher level.” - Rand Sealey, Review of Washington Wines

Had the occasion to taste the Maison Bleue wines at an event. I, too, was quite impressed by the quality, expressiveness and intensity of the wines. Obviously Pacific NW in origin but very much in a French style.

Thanks for the info, Jenise! Sorry I didn't see this sooner - I've had a busy past few days. I will certainly have to seek these out! What is their website? I did a google search, and the one that came up my browser didn't like because their security certificate expired.

Joy,

Hmmm...don't remember having a sec cert problem, but just checked them out and indeed ran into just that. I elected to proceed anyway and it took me straight to the right place: mbwinery.com. Btw, had another of their wines this weekend, a chardonnay. See the post "Walla Walla Weekend".
