Notable Week-end Wines

by Richard Fadeley OLD » Sun Mar 30, 2014 8:46 pm

This week-end resulted in quite a few notable wines that I thought would be worth sharing (points, if you like points).
First we started with a baked salmon served with the '11 Bouchard & Pere Bourgogne (89 pts). This was solid and tasty.
Tonight we had for starters with charcuterie the Chateau Thieuley '12 Bordeaux Rose'. It was delicious (90 pts). Then one you haven't heard from in a while, Antonin Rodet '11 Macon-Ige', "Le Chaillou" (90 pts) from the Macon. This was also a head turner. I would say 90-91 pts after a while in the glass.
Then with an abbreviated "coq-au-vin" we opened (and decanted) the Antonin Rodet '11 Fixin. After a somewhat rocky start, back and forth, this became an incredibly serious wine, with lots of depth, dark fruit and an very nice wine (92 pts.).
A better than average week-end and one that I thought was worth posting.

Thanks for the post. That Macon--white/chardonnay?

That was a Macon blanc, must be one of the villages that is allowed to append it's name to Macon. It was a new one on me. Quite tasty. But the real surprise was the Rodet '11 Fixin. It was complex, deep, with some real Nuit savoir faire, quite a surprise for a minor village in such a young vintage (apid $20 on CT). Nothing to go crazy about, but most enjoyable. Isn't it odd that the more memorable wines always show up when you least expect them to. Clive Coates gives one star to Rodet, which kind of surprised me, but thinking about it, I've never had a bad wine from him and several quite good ones. Will have to look for more.
